Arts in Social Contexts. Art Therapy (B.A.)

Creativity as a bridge between people and the world

How can art be healing? How can colours, shapes and creative processes be used to support people in difficult life situations? The Art Therapy specialisation in the programme Arts in Social Contexts programme at HKS Ottersberg combines artistic practice with therapeutic and social commitment.

Here you learn to use art as a language for that which is beyond words in order to support people in their individual development. You learn to use artistic methods in a targeted manner in therapeutic processes – whether in hospitals, rehabilitation or trauma therapy. In doing so, you combine art with psychology and pedagogy and use creative forms of expression to support healing and development processes.

The specialisation teaches you both art therapy methods and psychological basics, and enables you to gain practical experience in hospitals, schools and social institutions. Through the use of artistic methods, you will promote personal development and open up new avenues of therapeutic support.
