Arts in Social Contexts. Creative Writing as Social Practice (B.A.)

Writing as a social art form

Do you enjoy writing? And would you like your work to contribute to a sense of social togetherness? If so, the Creative Writing as Social Practice specialisation is just right for you!
Writing is more than just putting words on paper. It is an artistic practice that shapes identities, forms relationships and reflects social processes. Through writing and reading, we enter into dialogue, perceive perspectives and contribute to determining which stories are told – and which remain untold. In the Creative Writing specialisation, you learn to think of writing as a social art, to explore and shape social situations through poetry, and to collaboratively develop narratives and plays in which the voices of all participants are perceived.

Here's what to expect:

Whether in writing workshops, artistic projects, independent writing collectives or editorial departments – many forms of writing are no longer practised alone at a desk, but increasingly in a lively collaborative environment. The specialisation Creative Writing as Social Practice teaches you to initiate writing processes, provide informed guidance and support writers through all phases of the creative process. It provides space for your own creative writing as artistic practice but always views it as part of a social process in which your own role as an active participant is critically reflected upon. In addition to important basic knowledge about community building, collaborative and collective creative processes, constructive feedback techniques, discrimination-critical language, and the foundations of writing in literary and cultural studies, the study programme also teaches methods and theories of creative writing and writing process research. Scientific, theoretical and methodological teaching content thus enters into a productive dialogue with writing as a social art form.
