At Hochschule für Künste im Sozialen, Ottersberg (HKS), we are always happy to welcome exchange students from all over the world. If you are interested in expanding your horizon and to learn about the intersection of performance and fine art with social work, HKS may just be the place for you!
Our goal is for you get as much out of your exchange experience as possible – both personally and academically. The small campus and the familiar atmosphere among students and teachers make it easy for exchange students to feel right at home. And when it comes to your studies, we always strive to be flexible and accommodating toward the needs and interests of exchange students, allowing you to take the classes you want instead of requiring you to follow the prescribed course of studies.
The campus's rural surroundings make for a unique and unconventional exchange experience. At the same time, you can have all the big city bustle you desire: The next major city, Bremen, where many of our students live, is a fifteen-minute train ride away. Hamburg is located just over an hour by train away. For a very affordable monthly fee you get the student ticket (Semesterticket) with which you can use trains and other public transportation all across Germany as often as you like.
Below, you can find information on how to come to HKS as an Erasmus+ exchange student.
If you are interested in coming to Hochschule für Künste im Sozialen, Ottersberg (HKS) as an Eramus+ exchange student, you should first get in touch with your university's International Office, who will nominate you as an exchange student.
Nominations should be sent to international@hks-ottersberg.de and include the following information on the nominee:
The HKS International Office will get in touch with you shortly after the nomination has been accepted and provide you with all relevant information about the application procedure.
Once your application has been accepted, the International Office and a teacher will help you select suitable classes so that you can draw up the Learning Agreement.
While all classes at HKS are generally in German (some may be taught partly in English), we do not have strict German language proficiency requirements and we do not require language certificates for Erasmus students. We recommend German proficiency of B1 or B2 but many teachers and students will be happy to accommodate learners of German with a lower proficiency by translating into English. In order to be able to follow classes, students who do not speak German should have a language proficiency in English of about B2, but again, no language certificate is required.
Unfortunately, we do not offer on- or off-campus housing or student accommodation at present. Students will need to find an apartment or a room in a shared apartment before arrival. While this can be tricky, we do offer support. Specifically, as soon as the student's application has been accepted, we will find a HKS student buddy who will support the exchange student in finding accommodation. They will also show them around campus and town and help them find their way to classes etc. once they have arrived.
Bei Gruppen und Klassen bitten wir um Voranmeldung.
